The Most Common Questions About Menstrual Cups In The Philippines
If you’re a menstrual cup beginner, you probably have so many questions about the cup. First of all, we want to let you know that there is ABSOLUTELY NO DUMB QUESTION! When you’ve been wearing sanitary pads since you got your period, it can be extremely intimidating to use menstrual cups in the Philippines.
Whether you already have your hands on the Bulan Cup, or you’re just intrigued, check out these answers to our most frequently asked questions.
How do you use the Bulan Cup?
Using a cup is easy. You just fold it (we recommend the punchdown or the c-fold), and you insert it on your vagina similar to a tampon. One of the best features of a cup is it slides pretty. But if you need more help, wet your Bulan Cup before you slide it in. Once the cup is inside your vagina, it will pop and collect your blood. If you put it on correctly, you shouldn’t be able to feel it. On heavy days, you can leave it on for 8 hours, and on average days, you can leave it on for 12 hours!
How do I know my size?
Sizing can be very tricky, and there’s really no way to know your size until you use the cup. Our size guide is based on what works for certain ages, body types, and fitness levels.
It looks so big! Are you sure it will fit?
Absolutely! Your vagina will expand, bend, and move to accommodate your cup. You won't even feel it. Additionally, it won't stretch out your vagina. Once you remove your cup, your vagina will return to its compressed state. All the things you heard about vaginal tightness being important for sexual pleasure aren't true, either!
I’m scared! Is it messy?
If you still haven’t used cups before, you may think putting it on or pulling it out of your vagina is messy. Thankfully, your bathroom won’t look like a scene from The Shining. Removal can take a while to get used to, but your goal should be to pull the Bulan Cup upright and immediately tip it to your toilet. You may get a little blood on your fingers from the suction breaking off, but it’s not too bad!
What if I need to take my Bulan Cup out in public?
We admit this can be pretty intimidating! First, we recommend changing your cup right before you leave your house so you wouldn’t have to worry about it. But if you really need to empty it out, find a public toilet with a bidet that you can use to wash it. If there’s really no tap or bidet, just dump the content of your cup in the public toilet, wipe it with tissue, and reinsert.
Can I pee or poop with my Bulan Cup on?
Absolutely! You don’t need to worry about your cup whenever you pee or poop. How convenient is that? Actually, you can pretty much do anything with your cup! You can sleep, dance, surf, do yoga, swim, sunbathe, go to work, bike, climb a mountain, do ballet, wear cute underwear, sneeze, watch Netflix in bed – we’re not exaggerating when we say the Bulan Cup will let you experience period freedom.
Can a virgin use Bulan Cup?
Even if you’re never had sexual intercourse, you can still use a cup! In fact, you can use it if you’re old enough to menstruate (we recommend size 1 for teens). However, you really need to be comfortable with your body. If it feels uncomfortable, just take a break and try again. Don’t forget to relax! The entrance of your vagina is smaller compared to the cup so may need to slowly adapt to make insertion easier.
